The 2014 Young Writers Innovation Prize

Express Media is proud to announce the return of the Young Writers Innovation Prize in 2014. Funded by the Copyright Agency Limited, the prize is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young writers and artists to bring their brilliant writing or publishing ideas to life.

A video game reviewing publication, poetry machine, and multilingual online publication were the three big winners from last year’s inaugural program. Writers from all genres, and all parts of Australia, are again encouraged to pitch their new ideas to Express Media.
The idea will need to demonstrate innovation in the field of literature and/or publishing. It could include anything; from writing for zines, e-zines, comics, multimedia, websites, live performances, or spoken word. If you’re aged 30 or under in 2014, and you’ve got a big idea, we want to hear from you.
This year, the first prize winner will receive $5,000 to make their project a reality. Second and third prizes of $1,000 and $500 will be awarded respectively, giving them a valuable kick-start to reaching their goals. The key to getting submissions shortlisted will be by demonstrating innovation in the outcomes or approach to the project. Applicants are also encouraged to make their project sustainable beyond the initial prize.
Last year’s winner, Daniel Golding, used the money to launch a small digital publishing company specialising in long form video game criticism called Press Select.
