Cancellation Policy
Writers SA reserves the right to cancel any course or event up to two days prior to its advertised date, due to lack of bookings or presenter cancellation. If we cannot reschedule, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, you will be offered a workshop credit. Please contact us to confirm that your event will go ahead before booking travel or accommodation.
Credits and Refunds
Writers SA does not offer refunds if you cannot attend a course or event. You are eligible for a full credit to put towards any other workshop only if you notify us at least 24 hours before the workshop date.
Credits are valid for three months from date of issue, and can only be used for our workshop program. They are non-transferable, and cannot be used for membership or other services.
Self cancellations or refund requests for long term programs must be made in writing at least 5 business days prior to the first event for the series and will incur an admin fee of 10% of the total cost of the program.
Member services such as assessments, feedback, mentorships, consults, etc are non-refundable.
Specialist Program Credits (first draft, manuscript incubator and memoir academy)
There will be a maximum of two credit-holders at each event until a minimum number of paid participants is reached and will be on a first-come-first-served basis after emailing [email protected] to lodge your request. If the workshop is at capacity for credit-holders, you can opt to pay for the workshop or join a wait-list until the event reaches the minimum number of paid participants.
Competitions and Fellowships
All applications, entries and sample pieces for any Writers SA or partnered fellowship, residency, writing competition, etc, must be the author’s own original work that the author must hold the copyright and/or IP rights for. We do not accept entries, stories, articles or essays created using generative AI and if a suitable AI detector flags suspicious content, your entry will be disqualified at the discretion of the Writers SA team. Similarly, if a piece of work contains clear copyright infringements (example, using song lyrics, unattributed work of another writer that exceeds fair use, or trademarked content), it may also be disqualified.
Paid staff and immediate family of Writers SA paid staff, including committee/board members and their immediate families, are excluded from applying for the above opportunities Writers SA or our active partners offer (example, Varuna, Deep Creek, local council story competitions, etc). If you’re unsure if this applies to you, please email [email protected] for clarification.
Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers are non-refundable, non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash. The voucher can be used for workshops, masterclasses, events or memberships.
In the unlikely occasion of a cancellation of a workshop that has been purchased by a voucher, the voucher amount will be reinstated. Gift vouchers are valid for three years from the date of purchase.
Goods and Services Tax (GST)
All prices are displayed in Australian dollars and GST is included on all books and products, including workshops, seminars and masterclasses.
Please note: The price of some products and services may be subject to change.

Health Notice: COVID-19
While we clearly understand and respect that it is an individual’s choice as to whether or not they elect to undergo COVID-19 vaccinations, vaccination is the best way to protect oneself and the community from COVID-19; there is evidence that vaccinated people are less infectious and significantly less likely to become seriously ill. In light of the above, Writers SA strongly recommends all staff, speakers, and attendees of in-person events be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
In line with the growing number of events and activities taking place, Writers SA has taken the following position on behalf of the writing community:
1. Any attendee of a Writers SA event, program, meeting, information and networking session either held at Writers SA or at any external location is highly encouraged to where a mask to protect themselves and others against the spread of COVID-19.
2. The safety of our staff, workshop leaders and attendees is our priority. We ask that you comply with physical distancing.
3. Writers SA representatives are expected to wear masks where practicable to minimise the risk to health.
4. You cannot attend if you or a household contact has tested positive within 7 days of the event or if you are ill. Any attendee experiencing cold and/or flu like symptoms is asked to contact Writers SA regarding a refund and encouraged to stay home.
