Adelaide Writers’ Group

This group is a workshopping opportunity for emerging and established writers working on fiction of all genres. Members send out an excerpt of what they’re working on (2,000 words and under) the week before and everyone critiques the pieces and brings their written feedback along to discuss at the meetings.
The group doesn’t welcome egotistical or overly critical writers because we’re focused on constructive feedback, encouragement, and mutual support. The meetings are friendly and informal with a few drinks as well.

Our group includes writers of poetry, short stories, plays and novels, and members have a range of experiences and goals. Some of us just enjoy writing for fun and self-expression, while others are aiming for publication or have already been published.
The group has an informal structure. We read our writings aloud, talk about writing, publishing, competitions, and anything else we fancy. We also do a fun exercise most weeks to get our creative juices flowing. The main things we have in common are a love of writing and reading, and a desire to have fun!
We are always interested in meeting new writers, both beginners and those with experience, so if you’re interested, please contact us or just come along. the cost is $4 per week, but your first visit is free.

Our aim is to promote writers and writing in the Whyalla and Upper Spencer Gulf area. We have just published a picture book titled TALES OF CUTTLEFISH JOE (ISBN 978 1 329 90624 2), with words, photographs and illustrations by members of the group. Our aim is to publish further titles in the series to give members the opportunity of seeing their work in print. We are also planning an anthology of works to be published at the end of 2016. We have several members who have had work professionally published and can offer help and assistance to anyone wishing to see their work reach an audience.

For budding short-story writers and novelists, Marion Writers’ Inc offers the opportunities for budding writers to learn how to create more realistic and gripping characters with engaging dialogue and exciting plots that will hook in your readers.
Members of Marion Writers’ Inc submit a piece of writing (Maximum of 1,500 words) each month by email. At the meetings, members provide one another positive and constructive feedback usually with a written critique. You will learn basic self-editing techniques and how to redraft your work to ensure your writing continues to improve.
The aims of our group is to provide a safe haven where you can meet other people like yourself, a kindred spirit. They have a passion to write and will support you in your endeavours to complete the story that you want to tell.
Marion Writers’ Inc meets at the Hallett Cove library, located in the Cove Civic Centre, 1 Ragamuffin Drive, Hallett Cove SA on every fourth Wednesday of the month from 10.00 am – 12.00 noon, except in January. A self-help group for writers of speculative fiction and fantasy, Ad Astra is aimed at getting its members published. Our main activity is the critiquing of pieces submitted by two of our members each month. To provide sufficient opportunity for members to receive feedback on their work, our membership is limited to 12 at any one time.
Membership is free but we do ask members to commit to their writer development by attending (including a 10-minute writing exercise), providing apologies in advance, setting a personal goal each month, and taking turns as the monthly moderator or minute-taker.

Barossa Writers

We are a small group of writers, keen to practice and improve our writing in various styles over all genres.
The group has been running, under various names, for around 40 years, and published several anthologies.
Current members have published and won awards for poetry, short stories, book reviews, family history and memoir.
