Join Alison Evans for a thoughtful workshop centered around writing queer stories that don't rely on stereotypes or tropes.

With the literary spotlight on own voices and diverse representation in books and media, it's more important than ever to give your characters the agency on the page that they need and deserve without being othered or relegated to the sidelines.

Alison Evans, author of Euphoria Kids, Ida, and Highway Bodies, will talk about writing queer characters and creating worlds that gives those characters room to exist and explore. All characters need to live and breathe their identity, and have a detailed backstory and life before their appearance in your book. We'll also discuss not setting up binaries, engaging with heteronormativity in the narrative, and helpful resources for queer and allied writers alike.
