Grants, scholarships and fellowships are available to writers and authors of all mediums and career points, aspiring, emerging, established, metro and regional. Join local author and grant assessor Karen Wyld for a practical workshop on writing strong applications and finding the opportunities open to you.

As a freelance writer, author and consultant, Karen understands how important it is to submit an application that stands out from the crowd. In this workshop, we'll will cover some of the opportunities available for writers, explain grant terminology and criteria, outline the main steps to writing an application, and discuss what panels might look for when assessing applications. We'll also look at the fundamentals for applying for scholarships and fellowships.

Participants will learn:

• Of programs that support writers while they develop new work or build skills
• How to better understand grant criteria and terminology
• The basics of applying for scholarships and fellowships
• What panels are looking for when accessing your application
• How to cope with rejection, and trying again.

About Karen Wyld

Karen Wyld is a freelance writer and author. Her second novel Where the Fruit Falls was awarded the Dorothy Hewett Award for an unpublished novel. She has been shortlisted for and/or awarded literary scholarships and fellowships. Her latest release is Heroes, Rebels and Innovators: Inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People from History.  

With experience working in the not-for-profit sector, government and self-employed consultancy, she’s written numerous successful grant and tender applications. Karen has participated on grant panels for Australia Council for the Arts, Carclew Arts, and Onkaparinga Council..

This event has a strict cap on numbers due to Covid-19 venue regulations. You must purchase an individual ticket for every person intending to come to the workshop.
