Come along and create at this approachable, hands-on afternoon of zine-making, touching on the history and possibilities of the DIY medium.

This workshop is for anyone interested in entering the exciting world of limited-circulation, self-published works (often in the form of small booklets) known as zines. Suitable for any experience level and any creative practice, zines are an accessible way for artists and non-artists alike to express and share their creativity.

In this workshop, zine aficionado and illustrator Jessica Zeng AKA Ban-She will teach participants about the history and concept of the zine, share examples from the wide (and wild) world of zines, and guide you through planning, designing and creating your own zines! You’ll also learn about the local zine scene, how zine swaps work, and how to get started selling your own zines.

This workshop is open to all ages and all supplies will be provided to start writing, drawing, collaging and creating your own mini zine.

In this 90-minute workshop, you will:

  • Discover the history and concept of the zine
  • View a huge range of zines representing different genres and creative practices
  • Learn how to start planning and making your own zines
  • Create your own mini zine
  • Get tips on participating in the local zine scene
