Social media is a powerful way to build your author platform, connect with readers, and sell books—this workshop will take you through using TikTok to help build a thriving writing career.

It’s no secret that there’s a new-ish social media platform helping authors to sell books or get noticed. BookTok is a powerful community of booklovers on TikTok, creating a new generation of readers and growing audiences for writers. According to the marketing departments of the big publishers and other authors, if you’re not there, perhaps you should be!

But how do you use it to build your writing career? What gain would there be for both pre-published authors and authors who are already established or getting there? Learn how to leverage the social media platform with successful TikTok-ker Stacey McEwan, as she walks you through what it is, what it isn’t, and of course, how to do it in order to build your platform, grow your brand, and connect with readers.

Participants will gain a better understanding of:

  • Content plans
  • An engagement strategy
  • Hashtags – how they work and how to use them (this isn’t Twitter!)
  • What is best behaviour and what you shouldn’t do
  • Best practices for reaching readers across all SM platforms

Suitable for all writers at any level who want to either build a following prior to publication, or gain readers for published works.

—Online events are easy to access! You will need an internet connection and (ideally) a device with a camera – computers/laptops or even phones can be used to dial in. You will be sent a link to join a few days before the event. The link will take you to a private digital meeting where you can join the session. You can test the link at any time to ensure you can log in. Please respect the other participants in your event and mute your microphone at all times while the presenter is presenting. Background noise in houses such as TVs, pets and children can affect the sound quality.

About Stacey McEwan

Stacey McEwan is a school teacher by day and fantasy writer by night. She is a book influencer on multiple platforms and began writing Ledge after book lovers of the internet begged her to share her story ideas. Stacey lives on the Gold Coast, Australia with her husband, two children and one questionable dog. When Stacey isn’t writing, teaching, or making ridiculous TikToks, you’ll find her playing with her children, reading, annoying her husband, or possibly all three at once.
