Penguin Noir brings Australia’s crime writers to Burnside Library
Some of Australia’s leading crime writers will appear at Burnside Library on Tuesday, 1 September 2026 for Penguin Noir, a night of secrets, suspense and conversation about the stories shaping Australian crime fiction.
The evening opens with local favourite Fiona McIntosh, who will introduce The Silencing in an exclusive preview of her forthcoming detective novel. A panel follows with Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier, authors of gothic thriller The Mortons, and Margaret Hickey, whose latest novel Cold River returns to the rugged Victorian High Country. The discussion will be moderated by award-winning YA author Margot McGovern.
With old money, rural tension, buried crimes and family loyalty at its heart, Penguin Noir brings Australian darkness close to home.
Books will be available for purchase and signing, with themed booktails, door prizes and giveaways on the night.
