After the release of its third issue last month, Splinter literary journal is opening submissions to writers from across Australia and the world.
The literary journal – which is published out of Tarntanya (Adelaide) by Writers SA with support from Adelaide University, Flinders University, CreateSA, and the Don Dunstan Foundation – is seeking submissions across a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry formats.
Splinter does not publish themed issues and its issue five callout invites writers to engage with its core editorial questions about reality and perception.
There are also a handful of specific topics and voices the journal is particularly hoping to see among the issue five submissions. These include submissions that:
- Deal with housing and homelessness
- Grapple with the climate crisis (and its more optimistic cousin climate justice)
- Consider the fate of progressive politics in so-called Australia
- Use literary criticism to engage with the above themes
- Are by regionally-based First Nations writers
Submissions for issue five are open now and will close at 11:59pm (ACDT) on January 19, 2026. Submissions are only accepted via Submittable.
For more information see the journal’s website or our Submittable platform.
