Announcing our 2024 Varuna Recipients

Writers SA and Varuna the National Writers’ House are delighted to announce the 2023/24 recipient of our SA First Nations Writers Fellowship is Jannali Jones.

Jannali will be spending a week in the Blue Mountains, developing and editing a piece of work, with seven nights at Varuna, a $300 travel subsidy, and an expert consultation with a Varuna writing consultant.

For the SA Emerging Writers Fellowship we received 29 outstanding applications across a range of mediums and genres. We’re delighted to award this fellowship to Celeste Wong who is working on a memoir. Celeste will be spending seven days at the National Writers’ House, and will also receive a travel subsidy and consultations while there.

Special thanks to everyone who applied in this round and we’d like to add a highly commended note for Alison Richards and Melanie Ehle who will both enjoy a complimentary Writers SA workshop this Summer. It was truly an honour to be privy to the wide scope of projects our local writers are penning and we wish you all the best. Please do keep an eye on our newsletter for the next round and apply for other fellowships directly through Varuna, The National Writers’ House.
