From 28 February to 5 March 2026, members of the South Australian literary community will be holding activities in place of the cancelled Adelaide Writers’ Week 2026.
Click here to see the events taking place as part of Constellations.
An umbrella event Constellations will allow writers, organisations and those responsible for partnership programming who were to be involved with Adelaide Writers’ Week to create a space for the writing and reading community in the absence of Writers’ Week and to ensure that we hold space for that community in the city of Adelaide.
Constellations is Not Writers’ Week and it does not seek to replace Adelaide Writers’ Week.
Constellations was initiated as part of a wider response to show support for the writers and readers who boycotted Adelaide Writers’ Week 2026 to protest the previous Adelaide Festival board’s decision to cancel the appearance of Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah. The new board has subsequently apologised to Dr Abdel-Fattah and invited her to speak in 2027.
These Not Writers’ Week events provide an opportunity for bookshops, libraries and other communities of writers and readers across the state to show the importance of literary conversations in South Australia. The community is encouraged to hold creative events of all scales and forms, and to pay authors at ASA rates.
If you would like to donate to support writers and other community members to undertake activities this Not Writers Week you can do so below. Writers SA will auspice funds for the event/s.
We’re grateful for every donation. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
