It’s no secret that the arts – and particularly the literature sector – are facing precarious times. But this is certainly not the end. This is a shift, a shift towards something that may change the landscape but will bring the onus back to the people.
Last year we turned thirty and we cannot be more excited to keep going for another thirty years and beyond. Won’t it be exciting to see your children and their children turn to us when they are ready to start writing or publishing their memoir or novel?
In the past twelve months we have implemented some concrete ways to genuinely help writers build sustainable careers. We’ve introduced a mentoring program, an exchange program with an international writers festival, manuscript assessment and writing feedback services, the Pitch Conference, a new regional touring program and a solid writing program for youths, including our Exquisite I program for multicultural and multilingual young people.
As always, our Writers with Disability and First Nations programs continue to offer writing opportunities and accessibility for everyone in our community and we continue to provide a central, creative hub for the literary community in South Australia.
