NAIDOC Week 2022 Events

National NAIDOC Week has begun, with events across Australia in the first week of July to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held in your area—here are just a few helpful links to help you find out what’s on:

🔸 Storytime with illustrator Karen Briggs. Join Karen for stories, drawing and learning of her culture from Yorta Yorta country in a fun, interactive session.

🔸 Teen Protest Art Workshop: Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! For teens aged 15-17, come along for a full-day workshop led by Aboriginal creatives Tikari Rigney, Carly Tarkari Dodd, Natalie Harkin and members of the Unbound Collective (Faye Rosas Blanch, Simone Ulalka Tur and Ali Gumillya Baker). Learn about the history of Aboriginal protest art and how you can make your own voice heard.

🔸 Authors Rebecca Sullivan and Damien Coulthard explore the writing of their award winning book Warndu Mai, taking you through a guided tasting of their favourite ingredients to cook with and grow at home:

🔸 Take a tour of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to learn some of its history from a First Nations perspective. You’ll take an in depth look at Indigenous plants and their traditional uses, and explore the significant connection that Aboriginal people hold with Country.

🔸 Writers SA’s South Australian First Nations Writers Group was established to foster and develop the continuing diversity and growth of local First Nations writing in SA, find out more here.
