Procrasti-scrolling. Procrasti-snacking. Procrasti-cleaning. All very real and all very urgent-feeling when you simply don’t want to, or feel you can’t, write. We'll spend the day analysing some of the typical excuses and explore avenues to answer questions like:

• What could you sacrifice for more writing time and are you willing to?
• How do you forge a writing practice around working, parenting and cleaning the gutters?
• How do other writers get articles, stories and books written?
• What could your process to success look like?

Rebekah will guide you through a series of reflections and exercises to help answer these big questions and is for all writers at all levels.

This workshop will help you: 

• Make a plan for writing in 2022 and beyond 
• Make connections with other writers
• Begin to understand your own creative process and how to honour it
• Learn strategies to keep focussed and stay on track, even when you’re stuck or bored
• Learn how to manage procrasti-scrolling and procrasti-snacking and turn procrasti-cleaning into writing
• What techniques have other writers used to push through the tough writing days? Are word count goals useful?
• How do you make time for creative work around paid work?

About Rebekah Clarkson

Rebekah Clarkson is the author of Barking Dogs (Affirm Press), a short story cycle set in Mount Barker, in the Adelaide hills of South Australia where the author lives. Her stories have been recognised in major awards in Australia and overseas, including the ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, Fish Publishing Short Story Prize and Glimmer Train’s Fiction Open. Her short stories have appeared in publications including Griffith Review, Best Australian Stories and Something Special, Something Rare: Outstanding Short Stories by Australian Women (Black Inc.). She has a BA in Aboriginal Studies and an MA and PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Adelaide and works as an academic learning adviser at the University of South Australia. She has taught fiction writing at a number of Australian Universities and at the University of Texas at Austin. Rebekah is a Board Member of the Society for the Study of the Short Story.
