A gentle workshop exploring skills for writing about mental illness with Katerina Bryant, the author of Hysteria.

One in five South Australians experience some form of mental illness, and one of the biggest challenges for many people experiencing or recovering is the stigma and judgement of others. Writers and storytellers have long played a role in breaking down stigma and this workshop is an opportunity to upskill and inspire you in your own storytelling journey. Katerina will lead participants through writing tasks that approach mental illness authentically and responsibly. Katerina will also share some of her own writing and publishing journey, with the opportunity for participants to ask questions.

Participants will:

  • Have a gentle space to investigate ways of telling your own stories about mental illness
  • Consider how your writing can reduce stigma
  • Build creative writing skills to apply to your stories about mental illness
  • Meet and connect with like-minded writerly peers

This workshop is best suited to emerging writers. Writers with or without lived experiences of mental illness are welcome to attend.

This workshop is presented by the Writers SA No Limits: Young Regional Writers program, however writers all ages and locations are very welcome to attend this online workshop.
