What's it really like working in the children's book industry and how do you go about getting published? Writing can be exhilarating, exhausting, satisfying and lonely. Some days writing brings peace. Some days it brings joy. Other days it brings nothing but frustration and disappointment. Best-selling picture book author Katrina Germein shares honest reflections on bad days, great days and everything in-between, offering genuine insights for those wishing to build a career as a children's author.

—Online events are easy to access! You will need an internet connection and (ideally) a device with a camera – computers/laptops or even phones can be used to dial in. You will be sent a link to join a few days before the event. The link will take you to a private digital meeting where you can join the session. You can test the link at any time to ensure you can log in. Please respect the other participants in your event and mute your microphone at all times while the presenter is presenting. Background noise in houses such as TVs, pets and children can affect the sound quality.

About Katrina Germein

Katrina Germein is a best-selling picture book author, published worldwide. Her popular title, My Dad Thinks He’s Funny was Highly Commended in the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and became the first book in the ever-growing ‘My Dad’ series. In 2019 Katrina received a Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award for Let’s Go Strolling.

Many of Katrina’s other stories, such as Big Rain Coming and Thunderstorm Dancing, have been recognised as Children’s Book Council Notable Books and featured on various television programs including Play School. Katrina is an ambassador for Raising Literacy Australia, a Books in Homes Role Model and a Premier’s Reading Challenge Ambassador.

Her work is included in the United Way (Dolly Parton Imagination Library) distribution list. Katrina’s latest titles include Before You Were Born and Bev and Kev. In 2022 Katrina will release several new books including her first non-fiction picture book.
