Description:

with David Chapple

For: teachers of English
Focus area: students with low literacy levels

Teaching creative writing as part of a crowded curriculum can be difficult, but can also be a powerful transformational experience. This workshop provides new approaches to engaging students across all literacy levels in innovative writing and reading projects.

In this engaging workshop, educators will learn comprehensive strategies to connect students with writing, at all literacy levels, and guide them towards tangible learning outcomes.

David Chapple is the Writing Development Manager at the SA Writers Centre who spends his working life finding fantastic writers in surprising environments. He holds a Masters in Creative Writing, specialising in Writing and Health and has worked as the writer in residence in mental health projects, disability services and hospitals. He has also shared his unique approach to teaching creative writing within schools and prisons and has delivered creative writing projects for The Big Issue, Flinders Medical Centre, Common Ground and Adelaide Cemeteries Authority.

SA Writers Centre offers year round support to teachers of writing and reading including bespoke workshops for all students, assistance with students of high potential as writers, and networking opportunities for teachers to connect with writers. Join as a member today.
