Slow it Down

with Lucy Clark and Cassandra Dean

Commissioning editors are often asked ‘what do you look for in a manuscript’ and the answer is usually something vague like ‘great story, great characters, great voice’. But all those ingredients can go to waste if you don’t have the most important thing – the right pacing. Learning to slow it down is learning the art of focusing on the key moments in your manuscript, drawing every ounce of emotion from those scene, and getting the reader hooked.

Cassandra and Lucy are uniquely positioned to help. As internationally multi published authors who also work as editors for online publishing houses, they will share their practical, expert knowledge about crafting stories that editors actually want.

Come along to this insightful workshop to learn the real tricks of the trade that is hard to find elsewhere.

Participants will learn:

  • what a “close-up” is
  • how to write “lingering” scenes
  • effective use of the senses
  • the importance of pacing and
  • how to refine the skeleton of your story.
