How do you move on when the world won’t let you?

12:46: Claire Bingley stands alone at a bus stop

12:47: Ted Conkaffey parks his car beside her

12:52: The girl is missing . . .

Six minutes in the wrong place at the wrong time—that’s all it took to ruin Sydney detective Ted Conkaffey’s life. Accused but not convicted of a brutal abduction, Ted is now a free man—and public enemy number one…

Award-winning author Candice Fox took a real-life situation and an unlikely hero to write Crimson Lake to resounding success and in this three-hour workshop, she’ll walk you through the process of creating characters who aren’t walking cliches, the different types of crime genres, structure, and how to research without losing yourself down dark rabbit holes.

We’ll apply real-life cases to the fiction world in order to understand the difference between a novel that can carry its own weight and a flash in the pan idea. We’ll also hear tips for pitching your own novels to agents and publishers.

Participants will learn about:

  • using real events for inspiration
  • character traits of protagonists and antagonists
  • pitching thriller novels to agents and publishers
  • pace
  • ideas generation

Candice has a student-led style of teaching which makes this workshop suitable for aspiring and emerging authors (and also fans of her work) and will tailor a portion of the workshop to the needs of the participants.
