Shake out those writing muscles with a practical laser-sword session with Adelaide Sword Academy's Mark Holgate.

What’s involved in the arduous task of moving from Padawan to Jedi Knight? What’s laser-sword fighting like, and how might you train? Get some hands-on insights into a science-fantasy conflict by learning to swing a laser-sword with professional fencing instructor, Mark Holgate.

Participants will gain a better understanding of:

  • Basic sword fencing guards, blows and parries.
  • A sense of fencing distance and timing.
  • The flow of initiative between combatants in a fencing engagement.
  • How magical/psychic powers might affect a sword fight.
  • The basic structure of a fight scene.

This event is presented as part of our Portal: Fantasy Workshop Festival in the Riverland (Sept 9-11). See all events, workshops and updates here!

This workshop is presented by the Writers SA No Limits: Young Regional Writers program, and is aimed at regional writers under 30, however writers all ages and locations are very welcome to attend.
