A deep-dive workshop with Caleb Lewis for storytellers from all backgrounds.

Every day we take in hundreds of stories – each new morning we wake hungry for more. For thousands of years we’ve gathered to tell stories. Story has ever been our way of sharing knowledge, of understanding; story helps us come to grips with the world.

We are all born storytellers but some of us will pursue it doggedly, always looking to improve our craft, striving for clarity, simplicity and poetry in all our work.

In this deep-dive workshop, Caleb will discuss the elements of story: plot, character and theme. You'll also look at motivation, dialogue, setting and conflict. Lastly, you'll consider style and medium and how these different choices impact your story.

This is a practical workshop designed to give a solid grounding in classical narrative while also delving into new strategies for storytelling.

Participants will:

  • Explore classical narrative and new strategies for storytelling
  • Discuss plot, character, theme, motivation, dialogue, setting, conflict, style and medium
  • Meet and connect with like-minded storytellers, with a focus on regional storytellers
  • Recieve one ticket to a regional performance of Cathedral by Caleb Lewis (at the location of their choice).

This workshop is presented by the Writers SA No Limits: Young Regional Writers program and Country Arts SA, however all ages and locations are welcome to attend this online workshop.
