The Copyright Agency has announced it will award a $40,000 Fellowship to a mid-to-late career author for the development and creation of a new work.

Chief Executive of the Copyright Agency, Murray St Leger, says, “The Copyright Agency Fellowships, announced in our 40th year, were established to honour the significant contribution authors, publishers and copyright experts made in establishing the Copyright Agency.

“The author fellowship, which opens for applications today, seeks to reward mid-to-late career authors and support them in producing a work. We identified that there is already substantial funding provided for new authors but very little for authors further along in their careers, who still often struggle to make ends meet while writing.”

The fellowship is open to novelists, playwrights, poets, scriptwriters, non-fiction writers, children’s book authors and journalists with at least five published works and a contract in place for the work they are seeking support for. Applications close on 3 July 2015 (5pm AEST).

The applications will be judged by a panel of authors recommended by the Australian Society of Authors and announced at the ASA Congress in September.
