Expressions of interest are being sought for an exciting community arts training opportunity. Expressions of interest due 5 May.

Community Arts in Place: Developing a Community Arts Practice

This intensive program is an initiative of the Adelaide City Council and is funded through an Arts SA Community Arts Sector Development Grant. Twelve artists will be selected through the EOI process. There will be no program fees for successful applicants.

What is the Community Arts in Place program? Community art has the potential to bring people together, to express community stories, to inspire and empower. In recognition of the important role community artists play in the development of healthy communities, Adelaide City Council will deliver an intensive program of workshops designed to support artists to develop their community arts practice. These workshops are unique in their focus on active learning – as well as receiving relevant knowledge and practical skills, participating artists will engage with real communities and develop a community arts proposal for Adelaide City Council. These proposals will be considered and two will be chosen for implementation. All artists will complete the program with community arts experience appropriate for inclusion on a CV.

Where will it be held? Workshops will be held at Adelaide’s new City Library, Level 3, Rundle Place, Rundle Mall, Adelaide. Community engagement will occur in North Adelaide and in the south-east of the city.

When will it be run? Workshops begin on Monday June 30, 2014 and conclude on Wednesday July 16, 2014; implementation of a community arts project will occur no later than July 27. Participants will be expected to commit to all components of the program.

Who should submit an expression of interest? Applicants should be emerging or established artists with a genuine interest in developing a community arts practice but with only a little experience in community arts. Applicants must be resident in South Australia.
